New Single with Pet Needs!
A little help making something special happen? ❤️🎶
A while back, you might have heard me shouting from the rooftops about how excited I was to be recording a single with one of my best mates, Johnny Marriott from Pet Needs.
As soon as I wrote this track, I knew I wanted him on it. So, firstly, I was absolutely blown away when he said yes. Secondly, when he sent me his verse…
Mind. Officially. Blown.
As always, though, being a DIY artist means I fund these things myself. I don't get advances from a label, I don't have any benefactors, and I don't have anyone else footing the bill. If you've ever listened to one of my songs, I've paid to make it happen.
But with a baby on the way, and with absolutely no desire to be a shit dad before they're even here, I've made a decision: for a little while, the art needs to pay for itself. It's not forever, but for now, the money I earn from my day job needs to go towards my beautiful new family. And rightly so.
I've seen other bands do it. I've seen other artists do it. And despite the little Demon Brain voice in my head telling me I'm not allowed to ask for this kind of help, here we are. I'm doing it.
I'm crowdfunding this single, and I'm aiming to raise £2,000 to give it the release it deserves.
That's the target for this single alone. The money will go towards mixing, mastering, producing a video and marketing — everything needed to make this release look and sound as good as I know it can.
And here's the exciting bit: we've already started recording the four singles that will follow this one! So, if we're lucky enough to raise more than the £2,000 target, every extra penny will be put aside to help fund those next four releases.
The aim is to give this first single the best possible start, while building a little pot to help the next four make their way into the world, too. Five singles, five chances to get these songs out there properly, and hopefully a little less financial panic along the way!
And there's already some absolutely brilliant talent involved.
The amazing Dan O Dell at Boy Takes Flight Audio is on mixing duties. The track will then be heading to Italy to be mastered by my good friend Massi, who absolutely smashed my last album. Our good friend V, Pet Needs' official photographer and videographer, will be flying in from Germany for the video shoot. I've also got some fantastic people lined up to help get this single in front of as many eyes and ears as possible.
This isn't just about putting another song out. It's about giving something I'm genuinely proud of the chance to reach the people it deserves to reach.
I'm so proud of this track, what it represents and how it's turned out. I'm absolutely stoked to be working with Johnny, and every member of my band has completely bought into this one, too. There's something really special about the whole thing, and I genuinely can't wait to get it out into the world.
So, if you like what I do, if you've ever connected with one of my songs, or if you've ever thought about helping me out in some way, now is 100% the time.
Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will help make this happen. And if you can't contribute financially, sharing the campaign with someone who might be interested would mean the world to me, too.
Asking for help doesn't come naturally to me, but I'm putting that little voice in my head to one side and giving this a proper go. I'd love you to be part of it.
Thank you, genuinely and from the bottom of my heart, for all the support you've shown me over the years. It never goes unnoticed, and I'm incredibly grateful to have you lot in my corner.
Let's make something special happen.
All the best,
Jake Martin ❤️
